Lucia Heffernan (Born 1966) was born in Taiwan. She was inspired to draw and paint at a very early age by her mother, a teacher and watercolor artist. She graduated with honors from Binghamton University In the early 1990s after which she established an award winning creative design agency worth millions of dollars. In 2000 Lucia moved to Utah where her creative focus shifted from digital design to oil painting. Her works are in the style of contemporary realism. Her paintings reflect her love of animals and showcase her strength in graphic design. She wants to make the animals jump out from the canvas, but she also loves the energy from abstract paintings. Lucia often focuses in on the subjects and creates abstract backgrounds to enhance the focus. She enjoys depicting the twists and turns that make life stories seem a little more interesting.
Her latest series of paintings use animals as metaphors to portray the charming and quirky moments people encounter daily. Her work is widely collected in the western United States and she has won numerous local, regional and national competitions. Lucia is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and Oil Painters of America. She believes that laughter is the best medicine. That’s why she creates humorous, distinctive and whimsical works of art inspired by her love of animals. Her imaginative works feature everything from rabbits driving carrot cars to monocle high society ostriches. By placing animals in human situations, she paints a playful world where animals do everything humans do.
