When he was fifteen his father gaven nim materials to build a cat-boat. Although it never sailed very well, Hopper did consider a career as a naval architec. As an adult he owned a boat, but later, at Jo's insistence, he sold it. No doubt "Ground Swell" reflects Hopper's summers in New England on his own boat and on those of others.

The inks used are specially formulated so that the fine print heads can spurt jets of ink in minute droplets. When prints are produced on fine art quality paper, the print should posses archival standards of permanence comparable or better than other collectible work.
