Edgar Degas Frieze of Dancers (detail)

Description:
Degas liked to capture and paint ballet dancers behind the scenes rehearsing, waiting or practicing. It was these more restful, natural poses that Degas strived to capture rather than the practiced and seemless performances. He did capture perfromances, however he was often drawn to the behind-the-scenes life more over the performances.
