Shirley Trevena Wall Art

Shirley Trevena was born in Brixton, London. She was born in an artistic family. He mother and her grandmother were both singers and dancers. Her father worked in the making of fantastic television and films. Her background as a child was full of circus, theatre and cinema, which was the most exciting of all. All that color on a big screen has to have influenced my colorful compositions. One day, after several years working in local government, Shirley was given a box of watercolor paints which used to paint some objects and discovered that painting was what she was meant to do all along.

She decided to resign from her planning job over 25 years ago to become a full-time artist. Shirley says she has had the most wonderful adventure in discovering how to make colors sing and what marks she wants to put onto paper. Shirley enjoys working with mixed media and watercolors, her subject matter mainly still life, but she has been known to branch out into mono-printing, abstract landscape, and pen and ink work. She has a sort of love/hate relationship with painting. She’d rather do anything than start a painting: make lists, do the ironing or even clean the oven. But once she’s in the studio and the first marks are on the paper, she goes into a world of her own, oblivious of everything except form and color. She finds her creativity so hard to start up and even harder to walk away from. Apart from painting she likes to watch TV, play the piano and do crazy knitting.
