Corey Barksdale Wall Art

Corey Barksdale is a prolific Atlanta artist who was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He loved art from a young age and his talent was noticed by many. He was lucky to be born into a family of Artists. His mother was gifted with fastidiousness for detail and an intuitive feeling for design which she expressed in all aspects of her daily life, and his grandmother a quilt artist. These are the two people who exposed him to form and color at an early age. This rich beginning is the root of his creative expression. Barksdale’s fine art subject matter ranges from non-objective abstracts to human figures. In the recent past he has concentrated his talents on themes that portray the strength and love that exists within the African American community.

In 1994, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Atlanta College of Art. During the time he was at the university, he admired such mainstream artists as Clifford Still, Jasper Johns, and William deKooning, and was strongly influenced by the abstract expressionists. The appreciation of African/American artistic heritage was instilled in him by the African-American masters including William Tolliver, Romere Bearden, John Biggers, and Aaron Douglas. Currently, his paintings grace the covers of magazines, CD covers, posters, and books. Among Barksdale’s convictions is to give back to his community through art education. He attended many exhibitions including the Artist Xplosion Art Exhibition and the Atlanta Artist Exhibition, just to mention a few. Barksdale’s art is found in many private homes and also in many private and public institutions throughout the world.
