Frank Matera Art Prints

A painter works with a palette and brushes on canvas to recreate nature's colors as his eyes perceive them. A professional photographer is an artist of equal stature. His palette and brushes are embodied in his camera. Nature provides the reality of the scene: the color, the contours and the diversity. Accomplishing his goal requires sensitivity and talent. Frank Matera is a photographic artist. Matera's interest in photography was sparked in the 1930s when he served as a cameraman during World War II. When he relocated to the West Coast in the 1940s, he resumed his career in Hollywood, as a film technician. He shared in the growth of motion pictures, the transition from black and white to color films, and in the late 1970s, the introduction of tape technology. During that time, Matera took a keen interest in still photography, first in portraits, and then in landscapes and flowers. He takes a particular interest in the uniqueness of individual flowers, commenting, "We all need to spend time observing the beauty that has been given to us." His work has won critical acclaim wherever it has been exhibited.
