Adam Garelick Wall Art

Adam Garelick has been photographing New York City since he moved here in 2002. His work can be divided roughly into 2 categories, street photography and nighttime cityscapes. Garelick’s goal is to document the visual richness of a city that he says he’s fortunate to call home. He relies on a simple process that is consistent with his photographic approach. Garelick uses film, and develops the negatives by hand, with minimal post-processing adjustments. This minimalist approach is in keeping with Garelick’s photographic style. He wants the subjects to speak for themselves. He says that there’s always an imperfection in film that he thinks distinguishes each image, and which confirms the uniqueness of each subject. Garelick works primarily at night, when the streets of Manhattan are free from distraction and human activity has moved indoors.

His attuned sense of observation and familiarity with the City combine to produce subdued, black-and white-cityscapes. His process is deliberate and unrushed. He is very keen to detail and does not want anything that matters to go unnoticed. Garelick strives to make the final product look as possible. He uses film to produce a few exposures at a time. He says that he likes the simplicity of film because it has character and grit. It’s imperfect. It has blemishes. But he thinks its imperfection adds to its beauty. His works can be found in private and public collections and exhibitions throughout the United States. His pieces of art are highly priced because of their high quality and attractiveness.
