Jeanne Hughes (Born 1932) was born in Aline Oklahoma. She was the eldest daughter of Mildred Opaline Hughes and Orval Clayton. Her parents operated M & O grocery while she grew up in the town of Aline. During the Second World War, her family moved to the farmstead now occupied by Don, her brother. Jeanne returned there to help her mother with the many wheat harvests and with feeding the harvest crews. Jeanne excelled in school and in 1950 she graduated from Aline High School. She then went to Oklahoma State University where she majored in art. In 1951, Jeanne got married to Owen Curtis Griffin in Aline, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Wyandotte then in Collinsville, and finally in Stillwater. They got separated after 28 years. She later married Edward Hamilton and together they owned and managed The Cue, a campus entertainment center in Stillwater, and The Rock Barn Relics, an antique store.
The couple again parted ways after 28 years of their marriage. Jeanne moved to a retirement community near Gainesville, Texas, where she enjoyed fishing, dancing, and many senior activities with Lee Roy Schmitz, her friend and companion. While her children were young, Jeanne was a homemaker but worked outside the home in the OSU Bookstore as an administrative assistant at the Extension Design Center and Art Department. Many of her landscapes featured the streams, forests, and snow-capped mountains of the Pacific Northwest. She was a talented and a gifted artist, painting landscapes and portraits, and once in awhile teaching others the art of the brush. She passed away in 2015, at the age of 83.
