Helga Sermat Wall Art

Helga Sermat lives in Hemmingford, Quebec. This Canadian born artist divides her time between her art, graphic design, illustration projects, pursuing her life long passion for horses and building websites. She is represented in Ottawa, Ontario by Galerie St. Laurent. Helga’s images have been published as greeting posters and cards and are available throughout North America. Her posters and cards and limited edition giclée prints are now available in many outlets around the world. They are also available online. The artist grew up immersed in the culture and language of her Estonian parents. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in Toronto, and then went for further studies in drawing, sculpture, printmaking and theatre design at Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in Vancouver, the University of British Columbia, and Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Art in Montreal.

She worked as a prop and costume maker for theatre dance while living on the west coast. She was the co-founder of an alternative art materials store in Vancouver, B.C. called Urban Source. He later moved to Montreal which led to more studies in printmaking and drawing. Helga was able to develop a unique technique of using colored pencil. This technique involves building up of many thin layers that make finished drawings to resemble small paintings with precise details and vibrant surfaces. In 2007 Helga decided to leave city life behind and she now lives in Hemmingford, where she undertakes various projects. Helga lived and traveled in many interesting places including Estoni, Spain and a Tanzania.
