French Revolution Paintings

French Revolution art documents the period in French history during 1787 to 1799. These historical event images were documented by some of the most influential artists of the 18th century and are still considered some of the most moving and inspiring works of European art available to art audiences today.

The French Revolution was also a revolutionary time for artists. Cultural paintings like 'Liberty Leading the People, 28, 1830' by Eugene Delacroix were typical of this time in European art and is a perfect example of Neo-classic prints. Neoclassicism was a realistic art movement that thrived from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century and drew heavy influences from classic Greek and Roman art images and figures, such as the personification of Liberty in Delacroix's painting.

However, though Neoclassic fine art was one of the main artistic styles of the time, the focus of artists during the French Revolution was highly focused on the war. Cultural paintings, like 'The Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon' by Jacques-Louis David, were important during this time for both their historical and societal impact on Western culture during that time.

The French Revolution was an important turning point in the history of Western culture and European art. As such, French Revolution paintings are some of the most important historical event images available to current generations, both for their illumination of historical events in 18th century France and for being one of the first art styles that plainly addressed social opinion.
